In his 40 years of traveling through the Middle East, India, and North Africa he documented his passion for Arab and Muslim art, costume, and architecture in a series of drawings, paintings, engravings, and photographs, the finest examples of which are collected here and captioned in English, German, and French. Here are minutely detailed drawings of the Mosquée de Qaytbay and the house of Bayt Al-Chalibi, colorful mosaics from the tomb of Barsabay and an enameled glass lamp, and full-figure portraits of dancing girls in flowing silk and an Abyssinian warrior in battle dress.
